A BYOD policy affects more than just the IT department – While BYOD responsibility might sit within the IT department the BYOD project needs to be coordinated across the company and will need participation from:

  • Human Resources
  • Legal
  • Individual Business Units
  • And IT

And it is also likley that you may need more than one policy. Think of user cases with a focus on certain departments (e.g. sales and other customer-facing employees). It is unlikely that all these departments can use the same policy. For example a sales man to hold customer data on their own device? What do you do when this employee leaves?

The following graphic shows the main ascpects you will need to think about when writing the policy and the key questions around each subject.
